Concrete substrates
Products intended for horizontal road signalization are primarily designed for use on asphalt surfaces, exhibiting porous and rough structure with high content of bitumen in the composition. The principle of adhesion of road coatings is based on the penetration and partially dissolving bituminous binder, followed by mechanical locking of base aggregates in the coating.
When concrete surfaces are intended to be marked, it is crucial to ensure good adhesion of coatings to surfaces that will also determine the durability and functional life of the coating. The basic characteristics of the substrate, as well as the type of coating, must be mutually compatible for a quality joint. It is the procedure in the final stages of concrete that will determine the key characteristics of the surface, both in terms of composition and topology of the surface and thus determine the possibilities of application and selection of the applied coatings. Thus, it is of great importance to define if concrete surfaces have been additionally treated with hydrophobic protective agents based on silanes, siloxanes, silicones or various types of commercially available water glass sealings.
